Paxport partners with CTS to migrate entire tech stack and modernise infrastructure

Business

Paxport is a provider of digital B2B solutions for the travel industry. Their tools and products are designed to improve customer experience.

Challenge

Paxport was experiencing service failures, maintenance issues and a lack of scalable deployment with their existing on-premise data centres.

Solution

Paxport partnered with CTS to migrate all of their data over to Google Cloud, and modernised their entire IT stack to enable greater agility, a smoother data pipeline and faster deployments.

Background:
Paxport is a provider of digital B2B solutions for the travel industry. Their powerful tools and products assist with travel research, booking, and other services that are designed to improve customer experience in the travel industry.

The Challenge:
Back in 2016, Paxport was experiencing service failures, maintenance issues, and a lack of scalable deployment processes within its on-premises data centres. Rather than spending hundreds of thousands of pounds to revamp its data centres, the company migrated its infrastructure to Google Cloud with the help of dedicated Google partner CTS.

“We knew that Google Cloud was the right choice for us because it gives us a highly scalable and reliable infrastructure, with powerful data capabilities to best service our  customers,” said Tom Pye, Head of IT Operations at Paxport.

The Solution:
In just four months, Paxport went live on Google Cloud. In addition to migrating all of their data over from their on-premise data centres, CTS recognised other opportunities to modernise Paxport’s IT stack to enable faster deployments, greater agility and a smoother data pipeline.

As part of their modernisation plan, Paxport leveraged Google Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Google Cloud Storage and Cloud SQL allowing them to take advantage of the innovation that Google Cloud technology enables. One example of this is containerization.

When Paxport  was running on legacy data centres, a new development environment would take up to three weeks to create. With GKE and other Google Cloud infrastructure, Paxport can now develop a solution, containerize  it  locally, deploy it to a container registry and have an environment set up and ready for testing within a matter of hours.

Results:

  • Weekly system outages and SLA issues - largely eliminated with almost 100% uptime.
  • Accelerated time to develop and test new environments from weeks to hours.
  • Reduced total IT spend by 8% through Managed Services with CTS.
  • Introduced scalable infrastructure - Paxport was in a strong position to handle the abrupt drop in travel activity when COVID-19 impacted travel worldwide. Google Cloud could be scaled up and down, and together with guidance from CTS, this helped to lower significant costs which would have previously been incurred.

“By leveraging Google Cloud and having CTS’ support, we are in a strong position to continue improving the products and services that our customers depend on,” says Tom. “We made a giant leap with this migration, and it has worked out well. We are well-positioned to meet the demands of the travel industry today and in the future.”
