Podcasts to prep for Google NEXT 21’: CTS top picks

Overview

For when those times when the hands and eyes are occupied but the brain is idling (i.e. exercise, Southern Trains, most domestic chores...), podcasts can be a great way of sucking up new info - in between my regular aural entertainment, find some room for these

GCP Focussed brought to you by Stuart Barnett (Cloud Architect @ CTS)

Kubernetes podcast

Like the name implies - all about Kubernetes, but also talking to people who work with it and maintain it, not to mention how they got there, which is equally fascinating (a surprising number from non-traditional tech paths - including physicists and musicians to name but a few). Each episode starts with a handy run down of the week's happenings in container orchestration land, and host Craig Box is a genuinely excellent and amusing interviewer. A must for k8s nerds like me.

GCP Podcast

Covers the whole gamut of GCP, with different topics every week, from BeyondCorp to Anthos and everything in between. The style might not be to everyone-outside-of-the-West Coast’s tastes, but as above, it does provide a great run down of the week’s developments, and some excellent deep dives into topics and new releases.

Cloud Reader

This is quite a novel idea, as it takes existing GCP blog posts and reads them out to you - surprisingly effective if you have 10 mins or so spare and spy something interesting.

Dive Bar DevOps (podcast) - Arctiq

A recent addition to my listening portfolio (thanks again OvG) - Arctiq does a nice job in combining slightly irreverent chat about cloudy things with random Googlers, engineers and cocktails. Not a great deal of activity of late, but hopefully more to come from the cloudy Canucks.

Where are you watching Google Next 21?
Why not join us at one of our watch parties, located in London, and Utrecht.

Workspace focussed brought to you by Steve Franks (Cloud Consultant @ CTS)

Totally Unscripted

Totally Unscripted is a Google Workspace and Apps Script developer podcast that invites various community members and Google developer advocates to share and discuss projects, updates, or problems. When possible I watch these episodes via their YouTube channel.

Workspace Recap

I often call on episodes in this podcast to catch up on what I may have missed. There are so many changes in Workspace, the update blog posts are ideal for a quick overview, however, listening to the presenter’s discussions is great for exploring the changes in more detail.

GCP Podcast

As Stuart mentioned, this podcast covers so many areas of the Google Cloud, but there are often episodes that cover areas of Workspace or associated subjects such as Chrome OS or AppSheet

Darknet Diaries

Although not really related to Workspace, this personal favourite podcast is about all things cybercrime and the deep, dark side of the web, perfect for those gripping insights into the security underworld.
